Abstract

Background The availability of reliable electrical energy is an important factor in supporting community activities and economic growth, but the increase in the number of customers and electricity loads often causes distribution transformers to experience overload. Analysis of the installation of insertion transformers to overcome the problem of overload on the NBR 040 distribution transformer at the Cendana Feeder, PT PLN (Persero) ULP Nabire. The main problem faced is that the NBR 040 transformer experiences a load exceeding the safe limit (>80%), which is 80.69% at night, which has the potential to damage the insulation and reduce the life of the transformer. The solution offered is the installation of insertion transformers (NBR 297) to share the load.  The purpose of this study is to analyze changes in the percentage of transformer loading before and after insertion using manual calculations and ETAP 19.0.1 simulations. The methods used are secondary data collection (current and voltage measurement results), manual calculations based on standard formulas, and analysis of power flow simulations (load flow) with ETAP.  The results and analysis show that before the insertion, the NBR 040 transformer experienced an overload of 80.69% (nighttime) and 59.38 (daytime). After the insertion transformer was installed, the loading percentage decreased significantly to 40.59% (nighttime) and 33.16% (daytime), returning to a safe condition. The ETAP 19.0.1 simulation obtained manual calculation results with very similar values, namely 80.6% before and 41.4% after the insertion. This study proves that the insertion transformer installation is an effective technical solution to reduce overload and can be relied upon for distribution system planning, with ETAP as an accurate analysis tool.
