Abstract

Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ) is one of the underground mining areas operated by PT Freeport Indonesia, with a production rate of approximately 83,000 tons per day as of September 2022. To support mining activities, the electrical system in the DMLZ underground mine relies on advanced electrical equipment, supplied through the Switchgear EBB DMLZ 34.5 kV – 13.8 kV, Ring Main Unit (RMU), and Mobile Substation. However, this electrical system is susceptible to faults, such as symmetrical faults, asymmetrical faults, and overloads, requiring an adequate protection system. This study aims to analyze the coordination of overcurrent protection (Over Current Relay, OCR) and ground fault protection (Ground Fault Relay, GFR) on feeder J05 U/G North Haulage using ETAP 19.0.1 software. The analysis results show that the pickup current (Ipp) and Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) settings for the OCR and GFR relays provide protection coordination that meets the IEC 60255 standard, with a grading time between 0.2 – 0.4 seconds. These findings indicate that the protection system applied is effective in safeguarding the electrical system at DMLZ.
