Abstract

The accuracy of electricity energy recording is a crucial element in ensuring billing system reliability and optimizing the revenue of PT PLN (Persero). However, manual recording, which is still used in several areas including UP3 Jayapura, is prone to technical errors such as wiring disturbances and the loss of one phase, which can lead to unrecorded energy usage. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology in detecting measurement abnormalities and improving the accuracy of kWh sales at PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Jayapura. The research employed a quantitative method with a case study approach on a single B2 customer with a power capacity of 33,000 VA. Data were collected through field observations, documentation, and real-time data analysis as well as load profiles using the AMR system and AMICON application over the period of January to May 2025. The results show that the AMR system is capable of identifying technical anomalies such as voltage drops, missing phase currents while neutral current remains, and non-standard wiring. After corrective actions were taken, the technical parameters returned to normal and energy recording became accurate. The unrecorded energy over five months amounted to 3,097.5 kWh, with a potential financial loss of IDR 11,545,392. It is recommended that PT PLN (Persero) gradually expand the implementation of AMR to large and high-potential customers, and improve routine inspections of 3-phase 4-wire installations. Future research is also encouraged to explore various types of technical disturbances and develop the integration of AMR with an automated notification system to minimize non-technical losses more effectively.
